Jamini Paris
The refined marriage of India and France
Jamini Paris’s colorful fashion accessories and decorative objects subtly blend Parisian elegance with Indian savoir-faire. An alliance of cultures that fascinates Usha Bora, founder of the brand Jamini.
Originally from the eastern province of Assam, Usha is a “daughter of the land”, who grew up in the midst of tea plantations, between elephants and rhinos her grandfather cared about. A wild paradise she left at 16 to join the best business school in New Delhi.
Usha Bora arrives in Paris
After a stopover in Hong Kong where she runs the marketing department of an American company, Usha arrives in Paris, to work at L’Oréal. Her destiny seems to have been defined by the giants of industry. But the creative , sincere and generous personality of Usha get the upper hand of them and she decided to return to her roots.
The birth of Jamini Paris
The beginning
At the birth of her first child, the visceral need to revive a true bond with her native India led her in 2009 to found Jamini, that means “purple color” in Hindi. The beauty of the brand reflects its values : “time, respect for know-how and natural and human environments”.
Rich of this ideology, Usha wants to show to France – a country she loves – the nobility of the textiles and the various colors of her country of origin, and the work of the weavers from Assam. She makes work small groups of women in different villages that weave the Eri silk, known as “silk of peace”, used in particular for Jamini’s scarves.
The Jamini cushions
As for home decorating is concerned, the collection of Jamini woven cushions resonates like an ode to the know-how of these women.

For this Jamini Paris line of accessories, the duo was inspired by Scandinavian landscapes, vintage style from the 30s to 70s and Indian chic. Life-size designs, a range of soft, warm colors and a wooden stamp print perfectly match with the Indian textile tradition. A new successful brew of culture, to be discovered in its two Parisian boutiques, with its famous Jamini cushions and its Jamini carpets
